It's Not Christmas Without SUGAR COOKIES!

At the beginning of this month, Greg's Mom's side of the family got together for a family night of cookie decorating and chowder eating. Mmmm was it good!

The gang

Dax enjoyed decorating the cookie (shows on his face!) and then licking it all off...rarely would he take an actual bite.

These particular cookies (decorated by Alyssa) are DELICIOUS! This recipe all began when my Aunt Julie was making sugar cookies one time and made a mistake by mixing two different recipes together. She ended up adding sour cream, but later was very grateful for the mistake as these are the softest, best sugar cookies ever! It's now a family favorite of ours and my mom makes them for all occasions. Feel free to try 'em out:
Sugar Cookies
1 cup margarine
1 cup sugar
*Cream together, then add:
2 beaten eggs
1/2 tsp vanilla
1/2 cup sour cream
*Mix well, then add:
3 1/2 cups flour
1/2 tsp baking soda
1/2 tsp salt
1 tsp baking powder
*Mix well. Chill for at least 1/2 hour. Roll out 1/8" thick and cut into shapes. Bake at 375 for 10 min. Frost if desired.
Frosting:
1/2 cup (1 stick) margarine
1 tsp vanilla
2 1/2 cups powdered sugar
dash of salt
2 Tbsp evaporated milk or enough to make it easy to spread. Can substitute regular milk.
*Mix and add a few drops of food coloring of your choice.
Enjoy!

What a fun night. I am going to try this recipe out. I'm such a bad cookie maker and have never made sugar cookies but this recipe looks too good!

I just made these for us last night... and came down stairs this morning to find half of them eaten! grrr. Can't say that I blame them. They are ridiculously good (even before you get the frosting on them)!
